What is polymer technology?
Polymer technology refers to a series of methods and technologies related to the synthesis and processing of polymer materials. Polymers usually refer to compounds with large molecular weights, including various fibers, plant extracts, etc. These materials are ubiquitous in our daily lives, from packaging materials, household appliances to the manufacture of medical devices and health supplements. The research and application of polymer technology covers multiple aspects such as polymer synthesis, processing, performance characterization and material design.
Why do we need to develop polymer technology?
In the conventional field of functional foods and health care products, numerous issues persist, including the ambiguity of active compounds in plant extracts, limited bioavailability, and short half-life, which lead to the inability of active ingredients of plant extracts to fully exert their effects. These challenges contribute to the scarcity of genuinely effective ingredients in the dietary supplements sector, leading to outcomes that often fall short of expectations. In the field of dietary supplements, polymer technology is used to develop controlled release or targeted release systems to improve the bioavailability and efficacy of plant extracts. For example, by using biodegradable polymer materials (such as polylactic acid-co-glycolic acid (PLGA)) to encapsulate nutrients, gradual release under specific pH conditions or within a specific time period can be achieved. This technology is particularly suitable for dietary supplements that require long-term release of active ingredients, such as slow-release vitamin pills, mineral supplements, etc. At the same time, polymer materials such as microcapsules and nanoparticles are used in dietary supplements formulations to protect active ingredients from the influence of extreme environments in the body, such as gastric acid, digestive enzymes and other substances in the body, thereby improving the bioavailability of nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, making them easier to be absorbed by the human body.
What is the development history of the NatureU technology platform?
NatureU's polymer technology, MASTER (MultistAge Sustained and conTrollEd Release platform), is the result of eight years of rigorous scientific research. This technology was developed through the collaborative efforts of numerous research institutions and universities worldwide. The core technology of MASTER originates from the Langer Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States. The Langer Lab, affiliated with the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research and the Department of Chemical Engineering at MIT, is renowned globally for its contributions to the field of biomedical engineering.Professor Robert Langer, a distinguished chemical engineer, scientist, and inventor, leads the Langer Lab. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. His extensive research encompasses biotechnology, materials science, chemical engineering, drug delivery systems, and regenerative medicine.
